I reveal myself in my work. It’s true, if I weren't a graphic designer I'd be doing plumbing work like my family has for generations before me. Which may be why fragments of an industrial world keep reappearing in my designs. I also find that these lunch boxes, or wrenches, or pipes, convey an honest beauty, a rugged integrity of purpose. And they can be surprisingly architectural or sculptural. I strive to reveal the beauty in the product, and when a company is proud of who it is and what it makes, then it can afford to be honest and direct. An intrinsic approach is more likely to connect with a diverse audience which includes not just lawyers, teachers and students, but mechanics, carpenters and plumbers.
